Growth is Over!

Growth is Over !

Postby nameta9 » Thu Oct 24, 2013 7:57 am
Growth is Over !

Look at all the homes and buildings and stuff built in the USA, EU and JAPAN in the last 100 years. Are we going to build all the stuff all over again from now until 2100 ? No way jose', so how are these economies actually going to "Grow" anymore ? (you would have to demolish all structures, buildings, houses, cars, etc. and build them all over again, look at the google street views of JAPAN for example or the USA or any other place in the Developed World) Are the populations of these places going to go up as they did in the last 100 years ? No way jose' (as population going up means building more houses, more stuff to buy and throw away etc.) so growth will never come back again.

All the markets are saturated, can easily be saturated by goods and need little labor to produce all these goods, so growth can't come back again anymore no matter what. We can grow alot of BS and "Information" (which is mostly useless crap, just like this post), financial BS and "Services" (another word to say, lets play status and power games and break each others chops over who is going to be an impediment to who else according to who is stronger and so forth, nothing real and useful being produced here by a long shot, just like real estate prices going up and hosing everyone and health care and education costs going up and hosing everyone and so forth, everone becomes a problem to everyone else).

And especially are we going to enter a period of Technological Progress like the last 100 years that allowed to hire millions building Cars and TVs and Computers and all such NEW things all over again when technology is over and done with ? everything that could have been done has been done and anyways most things are built in poorer countries due to their low salaries and such. I don't see any new technologies or inventions needing huge Industry hiring millions of new workers worldwide in sight here for the future. I see a lot of layoffs and restructuring and robots and technology taking away those few jobs left.

BUt the economists keep on chanting this myth of Economic Growth (dont't believe the numbers they say, like the USA has grown 3 % in 2012 and such, they have to make up the numbers or else admit that the economies are all failed now), they have to, the debts that the USA, EU and JAPAN have are trillions upon trillions of dollars and with essentially ZERO ECONOMIC GROWTH (if not NEGATIVE) there is no way on earth that those debts will ever be paid back no matter what. These places are essentially bankrupt, failed entities are over and done with. Just look at reality:

1) is it easier to find a job now ? NO, never been harder in fact;

2) even if you find a job, is it paid better ? NO! often it is paid way lower than in the past

and ESPECIAllY

3) EVEN IF YOU FIND A JOB (IMPOSSIBLE) AND GET THAT PUNY PAY CAN YOU RENT OR BUY A HOUSE THAT ISN'T MORE THAN 80 % YOUR PUNY SALARY ? DOES HOUSING COST A DECENT PRICE COMPARED TO THE PUNY SALARY ? no way jose', houses either to rent or buy always cost you your entire monthly salary whether in the USA, or EU or JAPAN, (in the areas where the "JOBS" are, since if you go live in Detroit they cost peanuts but you starve) go figure, the economists never say that in order to have growth housing costs must go way, way down compared to the puny salaries being dealt to all the losers, but they have to hope that "prices recover" which means they are hoping that the rents or costs of houses increase even more compared to the puny salaries.

But then again according to the economists, the puny salaries are all the workers fault: they didn't get enough "Training", they don't have the right "Skill Sets", they don't "Innovate enough", they are not "Competitive enough", they are not "Flexible enough", they didn't create that brand new "Startup" making billions and "hiring thousands", and so forth and so on, a never ending list of execuses hiding the fact that relations between people is just a power struggle, a war, a fight where no common good or economy will blossom anymore.

Progress over, here comes the New Brains  !

Progress over, change the brain now...

Found an interesting blog:

scott locklin:

http://scottlocklin.wordpress.com/2009/ ... -progress/

he says:

I think this particular article is also quite germane to this blog, as it’s about the disturbing slow down in the rate of technological progress we’ve experienced in my lifetime. I realize this is going to be controversial, and it may seem insane since you’re reading about it on my personal little network broadcast system, but it is an important subject worthy of your consideration. Technological progress isn’t what it used to be. Oh sure, the direction is remains generally positive (though not always), but the rate of new innovations and human power over nature seems to have slowed considerably. I don’t think I have any simple answers as to why this is so, but I want people to think and talk about it. As far as I know, there are no voices anywhere in the blogosphere or any other popular media which are saying this, excepting perhaps Charles Murray. Someone has to start the conversation, and that someone apparently has to be me. Sure, you could dismiss this idea as depressive rantings caused by economic apocalypse, but I actually have had this idea in mind since 2003 or so, when I was procrastinating writing up my Ph.D. thesis in the LBL library. I spent a week or so reading the yearly journal, “Advances in computers” -a wonderful experience that was probably more valuable than writing my thesis up. It was also humbling in that there have been very few recent advances in computers which aren’t simply advances in lithography.

If you’re a scientist or technologist, obviously this should be an interesting subject for you. If you’re a financial type: this should be even more interesting for you, as economic progress is ultimately fueled by technology and improvements in human power. I consider it the most important subject of our time. Why aren’t we doing better?

I’m impressed and humbled by the caliber of people who have read and commented on my blog, so I hope some of you take the time to read and think about this short piece, and maybe leave me some useful comments for or against my thesis. Because I directed the article at a popular audience, I skipped over a lot of technical details. Obviously computers have made possible innovations like Supply Chain and Operations Research type things, which are a form of progress, but not a revolutionary one: things aren’t really much different. Keeping less product on shelves isn’t really progress to my mind. Inventing, say, double entry book keeping: that made stuff incredibly different from how things worked before. Inventing trains and trucks to move product around: that’s real progress too. Blogs are … well, they’re a sort of democratization of technology: very positive, but not exactly progress. Some wise-acre I spoke to had the nerve to use Twitter or other social networking websites as an example of “progress.” If you are tempted to do so, I would assert that you don’t know what the word “progress” means. Anyhow, here is the article:

We can make trillions of old things (what we should do anyways, we need huge increase of consumption and production of all kinds of things and remember that consumption is way more difficult to achieve than production, producing is easy, consuming is hard because people are still too used to the Resource Scarcity Mentality (not like the USA, the only real consmuer society), and all the economists and politicians think that GDP grows by helping corporations and production and competition and companies when in all truth, GDP grows mostly when you hike up consumption hugely, consumption should be the name of the game and more money in people's hands, not companies and production and so forth, consumption is infinitely more important than production and much harder to produce since it depends on people's culture and mind and hesitation to buy and waste like crazy, what we really need!) trillions of skyscrapers and rockets to planets and TVs and computers and so forth, mostly trillions of examples and permutations of mostly old ideas and concepts, but nothing really radically new like the Jet Plane was, or the Rocket to the Moon was, or the Automobile was and so forth.

In fact, you can really feel the desperation of our civilization that can't really go forward anymore (let alone all the political - social - economic problems that will forever be intractable and without any solutions because the Man Brain is simply a fighting against each other machine having will power machine and so forth), boredom, not knowing what new exciting thing to invent and so forth, what new possible market can be created, the constant chant for Innovation and Startups and Research and so forth hoping to gain something and so forth.

But the only real way forward now is to proudly and boldly and bluntly modify the Man Brain, the Observing Contraption on the top of our body, the Skull contents, stick in chips and new designs, make the new brains do all kinds of incredible new things, technology on steroids, technology achieved, modify the Mind and Brain in infinitely new ways, create trillions of new universes, all other past inventions and novelties will seem so tiny and worth so little compared to this.

But it is as if our Civilization is simply hesitating, waiting to make the jump, waiting and hestitating and afraid to finally plunge into the real future: the FUTURE OF WILDLY NEW BRAINS, MODIFIED BRAINS AND NEW SENSE ORGANS AND EMOTION STATES AND CONTRAPTIONS AND LOGIC AND FREE PHYSICS AND SO FORTH, THE FUTURE WHERE ALL OF THE PAST DISAPPEARS IN A JIFFY SINCE ALL THE RULES OF THE GAME CHANGE 100 %, THE PLUNGE INTO NEW UNIVERSES AND EXPERIENCE SETS AND INTERACTION SETS AND INFORMATION RELATIONSHIPS, ETC.

So keep on waiting and hestitating civilization, keep on playing puny games with old products and inventions, keep on devising new smart phones with other cameras and old hat things instead of doing what must be done: stick jet engines in the skull and mind, stick wild symbols and circuits in brains, change the brains in infinitely new varieties and types, do it man, you can do it, first gear - its all right, second gear - hang on tight, third gear you're out of sight.

Then again, even this theory and ideology may be a desperate attempt to keep on producing an imaginary progress when progress is mostly terminated in that modifying brains and minds will simply lead up pain and death since biological contraptions are so complex and intractable that it cannot be done: remember the three body problem can't be solved even with supercomputers executing a trillion operations a second...

A lot of the problem is that people are focused on synthesizing efficiency now over information and transportation technology. You don't see any new "real" technology being made since people insist on learning from experience instead of coming up with new things to do.

A classic example of this is in the music industry.

Centuries ago, people were actually inventing new technological instruments to be played.

Today, everything is based around synthesizers, and even genres themselves are synthesized.

What does a modified brain - mind really mean ? anything, anything can go, any result, but the problems are that all the assumption of a "common world" fall apart, all the rules of the game, all ideas, reference systems, all social conventions and so on fall apart, become unknown or variables and so forth. There is no longer any consensus on what the "real world" is if there is a new modified brain thinking, decoding, and interacting with the world differently. After all a civilization - a culture, the human race is only the sum of billions of very similar mind brain machines decoding and interacting with the world according to a very small subset of possible models and thought schemes and language systems.

A new brain can be slightly different and already be in a completely different universe (just notice how different the tribes that populated the world in history are so different just changing their mental models and rituals and prospectives, etc.). Imagine how different the world could be to a new mind brain designed in many new different ways: and then even just one mind brain is equivalent to a "human race" as the number of similar brains all talking to themselves can be viewed as just one Man Brain by itself, the number of instances of the same brain type doesn't really count, it is the Information Relationship Set that the processing machine can experience that creates the reality.

Now a completely different brain can be so different from us as to end up being completely unrelated, so far away from us that there is no way we can even remotely conceive or know what it is experiencing and so forth. Not even the highest abstractions can give us a feel for brains that end up being so different as to not having anything at all in common with us anymore: not saying that it can have trillions of more emotion systems or sense organs or sentimental experiences and so forth, but having things and experiences for which we have no words or concepts or anything no matter how much we try. So the rock on the street can be a possible new brain having trillions of experiences so removed and different from us as being impossible to communicate anything at all, hence it is irrelevant for us what the rock is doing, it is too far away from us, even though it is a complete universe, mind and brain having trillions of experiences and so forth. Just the fact that we see and know everything with denotations, indirections, symbols as opposed to a possible a new mind that could feel (like touch or pleasure or anything as far out as possible?) everything it sees and interacts with deeply, so deeply that we would appear to be completely dead compared to minds feeling everything infinitely deeply and so forth, not only reasoning about it or symbolizing things in logic schemes as we normal Man Brains have always done.

What could happen if Man finally decides to jump the gun is that many new parallel minds and experiences could start executing new lives and universes: but then at that point we are at the end of history and the human race (and the universe and laws of physics and for that matter), all what happens in each new brain (and there could be trillions of new experiences and experiments) is a world apart, there is no longer history or progress, (there is no longer a "common world" a consensus on what is real, nay, a consensus is no longer needed, each mind is a universe unto itself, self sufficient and infinitely powerful, Man Brains having billions of instantiations of itself talking to itself like the human race is is just one particular kind of organization, there can be trillions of other organizations, many consisting of only one brain, others consisting of millions of radically different brains talking to each other (with no consensus) and all the possibilities in between) what happens is disconnected from the linear arrow of time of progress and history, it is outside of all and such.

So will it happen ? maybe, maybe very slowly and gradually or maybe not...

new cpu

Re: New CPU Architecture !

Postby nameta9 » Sun Oct 13, 2013 8:01 pm
CPU design hasn't changed at all in 50 years, I was looking at old computers and CPUs, it is still exactly the same, just a jump instruction, a move and a logical - mathematical operation, etc. Very little has changed, funny how the most "innovative" field is in reality the most conservative, where the basics have been put in place decades ago with no real change (and even the higher level stuff, Android is just Unix made 40 years ago and so forth).

Only the integration has change and improved, just Silicon Science and lithography and such, but Moore's law is running out, another 4 years and Moore's law will be no more...

There is now room to challenge it all with billions of transistors available! so for example get rid of all move and logical operations and set them in a memory all calculated ahead of time: if you have 10 registers and another 10 registers and 10 operations (add, sub, xor) just avoid all moves between registers and put them all cross connected but simply equal to one long register having the contents of the first and the second register and all ten operations, you would get just a thousand registers with everything all done ahead of time, no need to move between registers:

10 registers time 10 registers times 10 operations gives you 1,000 memory slots:

1to 10 registers , then 11 to 20 registers then 1 to 10 operations...

register 1 | register 11 | and
register 2 | register 11 | and

and so forth for all of the combinations.

Then the branches and sequence would just be signals to access any of the 1000 combinations and maybe just a few moves to record back the result into register 1 and 11 and so forth. Or a recursive set of all the results giving you 1000 registers times 1000 reg. times 10 operations giving you 10 million registers (now composed of register 1, 11, register 2, 11 and the and of the previous and results), and then some moves and sequence - branch signals and so forth.

And all kinds of permutations on these ideas, there could be so many new kinds of experimental architectures, I can't believe that in such a field we are still stuck with the same old instructions and CPU designs that we have been doing for 50 years, I can't believe it, we need new bold minds and experiments, we need creative ideas, we need new designs, new architectures, just do it man, do it, break away from the past, do it man !!!!

New CPU Architecture !

New CPU Architecture !

Postby nameta9 » Sun Oct 06, 2013 9:34 am
New CPU Architecture

I was looking at old Microprocessors 6500, 68000, 6800 etc. and noticing that the instruction sets have only 3 types of operations: 1. data movement, 2. branch and 3. math - logical operations on registers so it would be only a JMP or BRANCH, a LOAD from Memory and an ADD (or AND etc.) Number to Memory or register, etc.

So given that these old CPUs had only 5,000 transistors, with the level of integration available today (billions of transistors) you could completely change the CPU architecture: do away with data movement operations, each memory location could have a CPU attached or something like that to do the logical operations, the branches could simply be signals to the memory locations, massively parallel CPU, completely new designs, very fast machines, etc.

If you consider that those old CPU systems had a 4k ROM for BASIC, then 4000 locations times 5000 transistors makes only 25 million transistors, it could be done or experimented, etc.

New CPU architectures, changing completely the way those CPUs were designed, make the memory the processor, make the logic diffused, try all possible combinations, etc.

CPUs in 50 years have only tried about 20 to 50 different combinations, we can now try thousands of new ideas (who cares if most don't work, the possibilities are there, some can be breakthroughs!).

And imagine if we don't even use logic or something, new ways of thinking and such. Just like pure blind forces created life and complexity exactly because those forces didn't use any logic, anything could go, any combination, in as logic simply limits what can be while nature follows no rules it just keeps on making a mess until a brain pops out of the soup, so new CPU designs could be tried, billions of new combinations, with millions of transistors so many new connections and circuits and such...

We can free ourselves from the Function Bounded Combinations of Matter into only some combinations not allowing us to explore the entire combinational space: like a car engine must only move a box from A to B and this bounds the design of the engine into only some types of contraptions not allowing us to try out all kinds of new contraptions: the engine could be full of valves, cylinders doing all kinds of things gears, all kinds of irrational mechanisms that are not going to lead to anything (imaginary functions ? wild functions, parallel functions, functions that are no longer point wise from A to B, but entire volumes into others ?) but are just exploring the combinational space of engine parts, coils, gears wires and so forth. Get rid of the bounded end functions and Matter can explore so many new entities, just as Matter did when it evolved the Brain from all kinds of random entities on the earth and a long chain of actions and reactions etc.

We can't construct the origin of life because the random irrational combinations that Matter can assume are way too many for our puny cause and effect logic: blind chance, dumb luck is much richer and can produce much more than our bounded, simple logical mind.

So you can change the way Microprocessors are designed, for example you can have a one shot conversion of a Memory state into another, one million bytes directly connected to a new set of one million bytes, just one shot to change a million memory locations into another and you avoid all the sequential steps.

Or your CPU could have every point on it (or in the volume of the CPU) constantly branching into all possible directions, so not only does every memory location represent a CPU, a processor, but every point is always branching, trying all the combinations constantly and so forth, and all of the combinations in between, trillions of new CPU experiments and designs, so cool!

And a planet sized CPU where every point is a processor doing all kinds of things, if the earth keeps on producing a billion microcontrollers a year, in billions of years the earth will be a ball of Microprocessors all running wildly and randomly, a new evolution, and shove that planet in an ocean of electricity, in the Sun and see what happens.

On a side note, I noticed that these cheap 20 dollars Microcontrollers are becoming popular, Arduino or something like that, so now we can design new Personal Computers and try out all kinds of new ideas and no longer be bounded by Microsoft or Linux, but try all kinds of simpler and new Operating Systems, bring back to life Amiga and such, whatever.

Millions of new PC types, new Operating Systems, wild chips, a never ending stream of new experiments, new possibilities, and evolution will continue, breakthroughs will occur, we will be Free From the Past.

Other possibilities: clockless chips, serial to parallel converters, make a chip + program set into a parallel combinational circuit that executes in one shot, simply by signal delay across the complete combination of circuits equivalent to the program and so forth. After all a program in the 6502 (commodore 64) or 6800 could have a few thousand bytes of length, converting it into a parallel circuit could mean just 100 million transistors, no sequential steps, just a long chain of direct combinational signals, delay only by the serialization of the transit time through the transistors.

The slowest part of any system is the serialization delays, whether sequential of parallel...

And other possible machines inside the machines, so many registers and circuits could be connected with a 100 million transistors, or you could make them operate in linear mode, all analog signals and analog circuits, a hugely complex analog computer and so forth, and imagine all the combinations, all of the breakthroughs, you can do it man, just do it, first gear, its all right, second gear hold on time, third gear you're out of sight...

So relax, find a nice beach and don't do anything anymore, just create nice leisure places like Rimini, Italy or similar, nice towns with discos, bars, girls (or boys if you are a girl (although I suspect we are all very old hags on these blogs but anyways) or whatever), you get the idea, hose the Work mentality, the production mentality and so forth, the "always having to do or discover or improve" crap and BS, we have done it all, it has all been achieved, now relax and free your mind, don't think about anything anymore, give up, end of story, end of the line.

Or you can cram a V8 engine and jet engine in your skull and explore new experiences...(I prefer to relax and throw all this progress BS away)...

Re: BOOST GDP!

The point is that GDP grows by consumption not by production: the fact that all the politics - economists are concentrated on helping industries and corporations and the work - production part of the economic equation reveals not only an old fashion 18th century hard work - production mentality that hasn't been really operating anymore for decades, but also the naive idea that more production and work and competition will make economies grow: nothing further from the truth, actually it is the exact opposite, more leisure time and free time and consumption will make economies grow infinitely faster and more than any new technology or innovation or research or competition and so forth: that is why we need beaches wll organized, the paradox is that the more Non Work, the more Leisure will help protect and increase that very little real work that is still necessary for a service economy.

And a Technological Economy needs more work like a hole in the head, it needs leisure, well organized and comfortable beaches, and so forth.

Of course the USA style of increasing comsumption and propping up the service economy is to increase "Health Care", make everyone think they are sick, make them all sick, give them procedures and drugs to help protect them from "possible future sicknesses" (that probably would never occur and anyways is so vague and intractable, go figure) instead of creating nice beaches and concentrating on leisure and pleasure and enjoyment and so forth. They should take a good look at those beaches in Italy and finally get civilized, in this sector Italy is light years ahead of anyone, no doubt.

Every time I go to Miami, I go to a place called Nikki Beach. It's private, and really nice, and they got all these white linen drapes hanging between the palm trees for a little shade. What I do, is I pay 300 bucks, and for that I get 2 liters of the liquor of my choice, and a king sized bed on a private beach with it's own little canopy so I can lounge around from morning till night just napping and drinking on the beach. It's a really great place. Much better than the public beaches, 65 bucks for a pitcher of mojito though. If you're ever down there you should definitely check it out.

I'll say this, I've been to 9 islands all over the place, and I've been to the "best beaches" at all of them, and if you know where to look, there's just no contest, the beaches in south Florida are supreme.

The point is that GDP grows by consumption not by production: the fact that all the politics - economists are concentrated on helping industries and corporations and the work - production part of the economic equation reveals not only an old fashion 18th century hard work - production mentality that hasn't been really oeprating anymore for decades, but also the naive idea that more production and work and competition will make economies grow: nothing further from the truth, actually it is the exact opposite, more leisure time and free time and consumption will make economies grow infinitely faster and more than any new technology or innovation or research or competition and so forth: that is why we need beaches wll orgainxe, the paradox is that the more Non Work, the more Leisure will help protect and increase that very little real work that is still necessary for a service economy.

And a Technological Economy needs more work like a hole in the head, it needs leisure, well organized and comfortable beaches, and so forth.

Hence this justifies the "Scientific Program" of designing new Brains and Minds having any possible interaction set with any possible outside environment created for it, any possible pain/pleasure circuits and so forth (the true evolution of technology, "Technology Achieved", technology on steroids, as only the pain/pleasure circuits count in the end and technology is only a means to achieve more pleasure than pain, etc.), this justifies the fact that reality is just an event, a point like event that can be emerged within any Interaction Set and Information Set and Experience Set, since the "event" is only ever all reality and truth, independent of any laws used to navigate it, nay, the laws can be invented, can be any at all, hence science is truly arbitrary as it pertains to only one set of interaction laws set up by Natural Evolution with respect to this quirky, random chemical set called Man.

In fact technology is at the end of the line, progress is over, we won't be discovering or creating new fangled things anymore like Electricity or Computers of Jet Planes and so forth. New Smart Phones containing old hat functions like phones and cameras and the internet just won't cut it anymore. At most we can replicate millions of models, produce a huge number of items of the same time, increase distribution and production of the old things we already have (fill the third world with cars and computers and skyscrapers and so forth), but we can't really invent any really new things anymore, we are at the end of the line now.
